Bundle, Free Shipping or Discount? Choose an Offer That Fits Your Numbers
Compare product bundles, discounts and free shipping with a worked INR example. Check contribution, COD costs and offer clarity before your next Meta campaign.

When comparing a product bundle vs discount, start with the buyer's hesitation and the amount left after fulfilling the order. A bundle changes what customers receive; a discount changes the product price; free shipping removes a delivery charge from their bill. None automatically wins. For Indian product sellers, payment method, packed weight, acquisition costs and delivery outcomes belong in the decision too.
Match the Offer to the Buying Question
Does the buyer need a complementary item, a lower total or clearer delivery pricing? A desk organiser paired with a useful cable holder can serve one complete need. An unrelated extra may make the choice harder.
If people do not understand the main product, a discount may not solve their hesitation. Explain the value before adding another promotion.
Review the offers and upsells overview and verify the controls in your workspace. Do not assume every bundle, threshold or discount-combination rule is supported automatically.
Know What Each Offer Costs
A direct discount gives the same item for less, reducing what remains to cover costs. Use a genuine reference price, not an inflated number designed to exaggerate savings.
A bundle can add useful value, but every component needs stock and a cost allowance. Extra packaging, heavier shipping and more complicated picking can change the result.
Free shipping still costs the seller money. Explain any location, basket or payment conditions before checkout rather than surprising customers with exclusions.
Read the Example as Contribution, Not Profit
The table above models one successfully paid and delivered prepaid order. All INR amounts are hypothetical, consistently tax-exclusive planning figures, not customer price quotes. Payment allowances are invented examples, not current gateway rates.
Contribution here subtracts only product, packaging, outbound shipping and payment costs from modelled revenue. Ads, returns, support, fixed overhead and other applicable costs are excluded. Replace the assumptions with your own records.
The bundle leaves INR 45 more than the standard offer per successful order; free shipping leaves INR 59 less. That does not establish a winning campaign. A bundle may attract fewer buyers, while removing shipping charges may change purchase behaviour.
Keep COD and Prepaid Separate
Do not apply the prepaid example unchanged to COD. Check collection arrangements, provider charges and unsuccessful-delivery costs. A placed COD order is not collected revenue.
Compare delivered orders, collections, cancellations, refunds and returns over a similar period. Orders still in transit are unresolved outcomes, not automatic successes.
Use sales analytics for product sellers alongside gateway and shipping records. If the dashboard does not calculate complete contribution, keep a separate worksheet instead of calling revenue profit.
Make the Campaign and Checkout Agree
An ad promising two items should lead to the same quantities, inclusions and price. Free-shipping eligibility should match the locations and conditions communicated in the campaign.
Explain the complete offer in a focused product funnel, including genuine limitations. Avoid stacking promotions before checking how they interact.
Test the final total in branded checkout for relevant variants, payment methods and accepted add-ons. Explain differences before the buyer commits time to purchasing.
Test One Alternative at a Time
Choose one alternative to the standard offer and a manageable learning budget. Keep audience, explanation and timing as comparable as practical. Changing creative, targeting and price together makes attribution difficult.
Record orders, fulfilment outcomes, actual costs, refunds and campaign spend. Allow outcomes to develop before comparing contribution across groups. Higher average order value alone does not justify keeping a bundle.
Set a stopping rule based on what you can afford to learn. A small test can reveal confusing terms or operational problems without proving a permanent winner.

FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is a bundle always better than a discount?
No. Relevant products and workable costs matter. A larger basket can still produce less contribution or fewer completed purchases.
Should free shipping mean a higher product price?
Not automatically. Compare the delivered price and actual costs. Make price changes transparent rather than concealing charges elsewhere.
Can I combine a discount with free shipping?
Only if the combined economics and configured rules work. Test eligibility and the final total rather than assuming both promotions remain affordable together.
